Job-search safety

Check the opportunity before you share or pay.

Most legitimate hiring processes are straightforward. Pressure, secrecy, payment requests, and requests for sensitive credentials are reasons to stop.

Never pay to apply or interview.

Stop if someone requests an application fee, training deposit, equipment payment, gift card, cryptocurrency, bank PIN, card CVV, or one-time password.

A five-minute verification checklist

Use these checks even when a listing looks polished or urgent.

01

Find the employer independently

Type the organisation's website address yourself and look for the same role on its official careers page.

02

Inspect the contact

Check the complete sender address. A free email domain or misspelled company domain deserves extra verification.

03

Read the job carefully

Compare the title, duties, location, salary, experience, and application deadline across sources.

04

Limit personal data

Do not share identity documents, bank credentials, tax IDs, or account codes before independently verifying the need and recipient.

05

Slow down pressure

Legitimate employers allow questions. Do not let an urgent offer, secrecy request, or text-only interview rush you.

06

Report concerns

Use Report listing on the job detail page so the role can enter the administrator review queue.

Common warning signs

  • ×Money required before an application, interview, or offer.
  • ×A cheque followed by instructions to buy equipment or return funds.
  • ×Requests for an OTP, PIN, password, card CVV, or remote device access.
  • ×An offer without a credible interview or written role details.
  • ×Recruiters who refuse verifiable company contact information.
  • ×Links with misspelled domains or unexpected downloadable software.
If something feels wrong

Stop the conversation and preserve evidence.

  1. 1
Do not send more information or money.

Leave the page or chat and do not open further files.

  2. 2
    Save useful evidence.

Keep the listing URL, sender address, messages, and payment request.

  3. 3
    Contact the organisation independently.

Use contact details from its verified website, not from the suspicious message.

  4. 4
    Protect exposed accounts.

Change affected passwords and contact your bank or relevant authority if sensitive data or money was shared.
